Southern Region vacancy lists, anyone on other regions could only apply for exhausted vacancy’s,I think if I remember right after being advertised 3 times with no applicants then they were thrown open to all regions
All Lines Vacancy sheets commenced in 1968 I believe, when all lines promotion was agreed. Up until then it was Regional Promotion, except Exhausted Vancies could be applied for by any applicant from any Region. SR EMUT depots often declared 'Exhausted' vacancies after a period of no applicants. That is how the first wave of Scots and others got onto the Southern.
THE SOUTHERN REGION
FOOTPLATE VACANCY LISTS
The Southern Region Footplate vacancies were published on a bi-monthly basis with the result sheets being published the following month. If a vacancy was advertised after three times and was still unfilled the vacancies would then be advertised to other Footplate vacancy lists on other regions. Many of the Exhausted Vacancies were on at the E.M.U.T. depots. This then allowed many redundant Footplatemen across the country to apply for them, with many vacancies subsequently being filled and then register their preference/redundant transfer move back to the depot of their choice. In January 1969 these regional vacancy lists were replaced by All Lines Vacancy Lists, advertising vacancies across the country and allowing footplatemen to apply for footplate positions. Below are extract of the P.T.&R. list that involving footplatemen from the Brighton Line.
